This was my first travel to new airport (Bengaluru International Airport Ltd – BIAL). I had fly to Delhi and my flight was around 4.30 PM. The day before the travel, I got the call from Air India that I need to be at the airport 90mins early!!! Hmmm… I agreed... thought I would explore the new airport.
I always make efficient use of public transport. I took Vayu Vajra (BMTCs Public transport system thro Volvo Bus for Airport). I boarded the bus in Rajajinagar around 1PM. BMTC charged me Rs. 150/- to airport, which I think pretty decent fare. It was Sunday and it took just an hour to commute to the new airport at Devanahalli which is around 40 KMs from my place. I think roughly it had 30 seats and the front portion of ample space inside the bus is reserved for the baggage. Not so nice seatings but manageable (may be designed for shorter journeys and carry more people), AC to chill people, and few nice kannada songs… justly it was a nice experience.
These buses run from nook and corner of the city and provide comfortable and safe journey. There were only 3 (including me) in such a big bus. Wondering… why people do not use public transport??? People plan their flights likewise plan Vayu Varjra too… for commuting to the airport. There is also defnite need for corporates to encourage their employess to use this facility who go on Business trips. We can check the schedule and book the tickets on BMTC website. BMTC has also have tied up with some private companies for booking. Now Why Vayu Vajra… if somebody asks me… safe, comfortable, save money, chance to do your bit to the nature as well congested roads in Bangalore, and then if you are lucky enough some beautiful co-passengers to look for…;-)

Agree that we must make more use of Vayu Vajra. Of late, these buses come packed especially from Airport to city. Sometimes 2-3 people are standing, hoping to get a seat by Hebbal. On the way to the airport, uncertainty about missing flight scares some people into taking taxi. Good suggestion that corporates must create more incentives for staff to use VV instead of taxis... maybe award points for every bus use, redeemable for gifts at end of year?
